Mrs. Audry Evelene Belcher Cockram, age 90 of Stuart, passed away Monday, May 12, 2008 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born in Floyd County, Virginia on August 27,1917 to the late John (Dude) Wesley Belcher and Ollie Boyd Belcher. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cockram was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward L. Belcher; her second husband, Harry Dean Cockram; one son, James Elvin Belcher, two brothers, Wesley Belcher and John A. Belcher; and four sisters, Mae McPeak, Gaye Wood, Louannie Belcher and Eva Conner. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a charter member of Slate Mountain Presbyterian Church, and served many years as a dedicated volunteer at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center.
Mrs. Cockram is survived by a beloved daughter and son-in-law, Ann Phaup-Phillips and Douglas Phillips of Niskayuna, New York; one granddaughter, Lori Ann, and husband, Nelson "Tip" Simons of Connecticut; two great-grandchildren, Lindsay Simons and Will Simons; one sister, Treva Underwood of Meadows of Dan; and one brother; Herbert Belcher of Meadows of Dan. Funeral services for Mrs. Cockram will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Slate Mountain Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jim Churchwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Conner-Belcher Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Slate Mountain Presbyterian Church, c/o Lendell Craig, 379 Woodbury Road, Meadows of Dan, Virginia 24120, or to New Life Community Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 927, Stuart, Virginia 24171. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is in charge of the arrangements.
