Ava Marie Scott Hutchens

Mrs. Ava Marie Scott Hutchens, 87, of 179 Pineview Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday evening, July 12, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Hutchens was born July 4, 1925, in Surry County, one of thirteen children born to the late Charlie William and Lucinda Hooker Scott. Following her retirement from Hanes Inc., Ava worked as a sales associate at Farees and The Personal Touch in downtown Mount Airy. Mrs. Hutchens was a member of White Plains Friends Meeting. She is survived by a daughter, Jackie Flippin of Winston-Salem; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Ann Flippin of Mount Airy; a grandson, Brian Flippin of Mount Airy; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Jessup and Alyene and Haywood Young, all of Mount Airy; two brothers and four sisters-in-law, Herbert and Gail Scott of St. Augustine, FL, the Rev. Deward and Louise Scott and Helen Scott, all of Mount Airy, and JoEllen Scott of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hutchens was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Sisk Hutchens; four sisters, Hazel McMillian, Irene Scearce Tilley, Helen Key, and Nellie Marion; and four brothers, Eugene Scott, Paul Scott, J.C. Scott, and Carl Scott. The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 15, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jake Penley and Dr. David Sparks. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
