Barbara Ellen Collins Burkhart

Mrs. Barbara Ellen Collins Burkhart, 72, of 116 Strongsville Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at her home. She was born January 28, 1938, in Surry County, to the late Lamer Houston and Pauline Hicks Collins. She was a homemaker and retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. She was a member of the Baptist faith. Surviving are her husband, James Burkhart of the home; three daughters and a son-in-law, Annette Burkhart of Winston-Salem, Lisa Marie of Mount Airy, and Kristie and Julius Wynne of Kernersville; a son, Robert York of Mount Airy; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Collins of Dobson and Betty Collins of Mount Airy; and four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Debbie Collins, Marvin and Myrna Collins, Raymond Collins, and Alvin Collins, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burkhart was preceded in death by a daughter, Ranae Burkhart; and two brothers, Mack Houston Collins and James Collins. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 9, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Burkhart Family Cemetery, with the Rev. David Joyce officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:30 until the time to go to the cemetery for the service. Flowers will be accepted, or the family asks that any contributions be made to Moody Funeral Services, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030 to assist them with the funeral expenses.
