Barbara Jo Collins

Mrs. Barbara Jo Chappell Collins, age 82, of Cana, passed away Friday, February 22, 2019, at Northern Hospital.  Mrs. Collins was born in Surry County on September 23, 1936, to Frank and Essie Speas Chappell.  She was retired from Cross Creek Apparel, and was a faithful member of Flat Ridge Baptist Church where she served in several positions, and was also a volunteer at Northern Hospital for several years.  Surviving are sons and a daughter-in-law, Phillip and Margaret Easter, and T. Darrell Easter; grandchildren, Kandy Alvear and husband Mark Alvear, Jr., Bradley Easter and fiancée Tammy Payne , Chasity Baldwin and husband Cory, and Brooke Easter; and great grandchildren, Tristan Day, Emily Easter, Chase Alvear, Bryice Alvear, Katie Alvear, Macean Alvear, Micah Baldwin, Olivia Baldwin, and Carlee Melton.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Henry Collins; an infant son; a sister, Nella Mae Kline; and brothers, Charles and Edward Chappell.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, February 25, 2019, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dennis Bledsoe and the Rev. Oscar Hill.  Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday at the funeral home beginning at 12:30.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flat Ridge Baptist Church c/o Doris Dawson, 229 Meadowbrook Rd., Cana, VA 24317.
