Barbara was born in Dobson, North Carolina on April 14, 1939, the daughter of Bessie (Hayes) and Wesley Edmonds. She was the youngest of three children.

Barbara lived in Dobson until moving to Flint in 1957.

On April 23, 1957 she married the love of her life, Richard Gilbert Gillespie in York, South Carolina. They were married for 54 wonderful years before he preceded her in death in June, 2011. Together they raised four wonderful children, Shirley, Butch, Rick and Belinda.

Barbara worked at a local doctor’s office and her children’s school; but her greatest joy in life was being a stay-at-home mom and raising her family.

While she enjoyed listening to music and watching soap operas, her favorite past time was spending time with her family and getting hugs from everyone she loved.

She also enjoyed countless hours talking on the phone with family and friends.

She will be missed dearly by her family and friends, who she always told she loved to the moon and back.

Surviving are three children, Butch and Becca Gillespie, Rick and Debbie Gillespie, Belinda and Mark Trudeau;

grandchildren, Jaclyn (Tim) Ocenasek, Heather Trudeau, Ashley Trudeau, Rachel Cady, Michael Kendrick, David Holland;

two great-grandsons, Luke Ocenasek and Oliver Cady;

dear family friend, Joe Lincoln and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Wesley Edmonds; husband, Richard Gillespie; daughter, Shirley Kendrick; granddaughter, Bridget Villabol; brothers, Sam Watson and Spencer Edmonds; sister-in-law, Treva Watson Woods and brother-in-law, G.W. Gillespie. Local arrangements are in the care of Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson.
