Barbara Sue McMillian

Mrs. Barbara Sue “NaNa” Newman McMillian, age 73, of Rural Hall passed away at the home of her daughter Monday, July 2, 2018.  She was born in Carroll County, VA November 27, 1944 to the late Rev. Burlie Edward Newman and Ima Celeste Combs Newman.  Mrs. McMillian was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, always more concerned of the welfare for others than her own.  She retired from RJ Reynolds as executive secretary for the tax department.  Mrs. McMillian is survived by her daughters, Jennifer McMillian Chilton and Carrie McMillian; grandchildren, Madalyn Chilton and Grayson Chilton and Kennadee Spencer; sister and brother-in-law, Joella and Mike Snody; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Pat Newman, and a sister-in-law Phyllis Newman; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. McMillian was preceded in death by her husband, Foy Ray McMillian; and a brother, Gerald Newman. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 6, 2018 at Paul’s Creek Baptist Church in Cana, VA with Dr. Darrell Tate officiating.  Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Stanleyville, NC.  The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a hospice center of the donor’s choice or Cancer Services, 3175 Maplewood Ave., Winston Salem, NC 27103.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
