Barbara Susan Moore

Mrs. Barbara Susan Moore, 91, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, February 28, 2017, after a brief illness. Barbara was born January 23, 1926, in Miami, FL, and lived most of her life in Atlanta, GA. She was an avid genealogist, having spent years researching branches of the family trees for her and her late husband, Robert Allen Moore. She also enjoyed needlework and other handcrafts. Barbara and her husband enjoyed furniture and clock restorations, and she became an expert in refinishing antiques. She was also a passionate fan of opera. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Moore of Boston, MA, and Linda Moore Cook of the home; and a great-grandson, Oliver Cook of Boston, MA. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth E. Orr; her father, Alonzo C. Lampkin; and her grandchildren, Robert Cook and Christopher Cook. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 12, 2017, at 3:00 PM at Salem United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joseph Kossan officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday at the church immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
