Barbara Gwyn O'Neal

Mrs. Barbara Gwyn O’Neal, 83, of Ararat, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2021, at her home. Mrs. O’Neal was born September 11, 1938, in Moore County, the daughter of the Rev. Marion Jasper and Margie Marie Gwyn. Barbara retired from Surry Community College and Reeves Community Center. She loved her family, friends, dancing, singing, gardening, vacationing, and enjoying her home and fur babies, Dixie and Sugar. She is survived by her children, Vicky Llewellyn of Ararat, Kathy Jones of Mount Airy, Terry and Jerrie O’Neal of Ararat, and Sherry O’Neal of the home and Chris Walker; her grandchildren, Rodney Jenkins of Ararat, Joshua O’Neal of Ararat and his fiancé, Darien Luke, Sarah and Matthew Hanks of Winston-Salem, and Brittany Jenkins of the home, along with her fiancé, Noah Starrette, United States Navy; a sister, Gertrude Jordan of the home; and a sister-in-law, Adele “Lady” Gwyn. In addition to her parents, Mrs. O’Neal was predeceased by her husband, Glen G. O’Neal; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia “Sis” and Clarence Goad; three brothers, Marvin Gwyn, Roscoe Gwyn, and William Gwyn; as well as a brother-in-law, John Jordan. The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 24, 2021, at 4:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Ron Hall and Dr. Jonathan Casstevens officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
