Mr. Barnett David McCrary, age 81 of Floyd, VA passed away November 6, 2006 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem, VA. Mr. McCrary was born in Carroll County, VA, October 10, 1925 to the late Jesse Edward and Flora Combs McCrary. He was retired and attended Topeco Church of the Brethren. Mr.
McCrary served his country during World War II receiving a FAME Theatre Ribbon with one bronze star, a Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster, American Theatre Ribbon, Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Ribbon. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and automotive enthusiast. Among the favorite cars he owned were, 1964, 426 Plymouth; 1967, 440 GTX; 1983, 67 Mazda. He had two beloved dogs, Pup, a border collie and Potsie, a German Shepherd. He is survived by his wife Ruby Wade McCrary; a son and daughter-in-daughter-in-law, Tony and Rita Dalton McCrary of Cana, VA; a grandson, Kenny Wayne McCrary of Cana, VA; one stepson, Barry Simmons, a step grandson, David Rabern Simmons. In addition to his parents, Mr. McCrary was preceded in death by his first wife, his son's mother, Claudia Quesinberry McCrary; two sister's, Osa Combs and Irene McCrary; three brothers, Russell, Foy, Alonzo McCrary. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 PM Wednesday at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy by Rev. Mike Varner. Burial will follow at Epworth United Methodist Church Cemetery with Full Military Honors by Hillsville Honor Guard VFW Post 1115. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 7, 2006 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home.
