Mrs. Beatrice Golding Hawks, 88, of 122 Mystery Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Friday, October 20, 2006, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Hawks was born April 1, 1918, in Surry County, to the late Rufus Jarrell Golding and Dora Cordelia Upchurch Golding. She was retired from Spencer's Inc. and a member of Woodland Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Hawks Gentry of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, David Clayton and Ruth Hawks of Mount Airy; three grandsons and spouses, Jeffery Dale and Donna Hawks of Mount Airy, Vince Gentry of Raleigh, and Charles Bradley and Delinda Hawks of Mount Airy; three great grandsons and spouses, Joshua Brandon and Brittany Hawks, Justin Paul and Chasity Hawks, and David Lee Hawks, all of Mount Airy; two great great grandchildren, Lukcus Charles Hawks and Cheyenne Hawks, both of Mount Airy; a sister, Charlotte Spurlin of Lowgap; a brother, Allen Golden of Swannanoa; and a special friends, Madaline Gardner of Lowgap and Faye Terrell of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Elmer Hawks; three sisters, Nellie Bryant, Pearl Bartley, and Cleo Hawks; and a brother, Herbert Lester Golding. The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 22, 2006, at 2:00 PM at Woodland Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Slate, and burial will follow in the Liberty Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service. The family would like to express a special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all of their love and kindness shown to them during their time of need.
