Mr. Benton "Albert" Horton, 83, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Salisbury VA Medical Center in Salisbury. Mr. Horton was born June 16, 1924, in Forsyth County, to the late Ellis and Effie Martin Horton. He served in the United States Army from March 1944 until November 1947. He was a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 61, and a member of Faith Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Leavie Goins Horton of the home; a daughter, Irene Boyd of Mount Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ellis and Kathy Horton and Roy Horton, all of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren, David Horton, Terry Horton, Rocky Horton, Misty Taylor, Wendy Venable, Stephanie Bray, Jeremy McKeithan, and a special grandson, Willie Gwyn; a stepgrandchild, Angela Tickle; nine great-grandchildren, Colburn Gwyn, Sydney Gwyn, Camden Taylor, Lacey Taylor, Heather Horton, Alicia Horton, Madison Bray, Jayden McKeithan, and Ethan Venable; three great-stepgrandchildren, Brooke Tickle, Blake Tickle, and Cody McKeithan; a sister, Elsie McKnight of Roanoke, VA; and a special sister-in-law, Betty Noah of Walkertown. In addition to his parents, Mr. Horton was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirley McKeithan and Rosie Inez Horton; and a great-grandson, Brandon Lee Horton. The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 9, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Ben Simmons and the Rev. Randy Edwards, and burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
