Berna Edward (Sol) Jones

Mr. Berna Edward (Sol) Jones, age 78 of Winston Salem husband of Elza Combs Jones passed away November 13, 2007 at the Brian Rehab and Retirement Center in Winston Salem. Mr. Jones was born February 18, 1929 in Cana Virginia, one of 13 children born to the late William Lissie and Lina Cagle Jones. He was a retired truck driver and produce dealer, was a partner of N & J Produce Co. in Winston Salem and worked many summers on the Columbia, SC State Farmer's Market for his brothers at Jones Produce Center and Cana Produce Center both in Cana, VA. In addition to his wife Elza of 59 years, Mr. Jones is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Gail and Gary Leftwich of Cana, Charlotte and Glen Davis of Myrtle Beach, SC; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis Jones of Winston Salem, Danny Jones of Cana and Delmer (Bo) and Debbie Jones of King. He was a very proud "Pawpaw" to his ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Also surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye Hardigree and Helen and Eddie Vaughn all of Cana; Howard Willard of Winchester, KY; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Franklin and Forrest Jones, Herman and Edith Jones, Odell and Maggie Jones, Perry and Ida Jones, Linwood and Lorraine Jones, Nonnie Jones, Magdalene Jones and Edith Jones all of Cana; an uncle Buster and wife Mary Lee Jones of Cana and many nieces and nephews and extended family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a sister, Loraine J. Willard and three brothers, Junior, Namon and Harlie Jones. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM at Paul's Creek Baptist Church in Cana, VA by Rev. Verlon Combs, Rev. Larry Jones, Rev. Marlie Hawks and Rev. James Jones. His body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Jesse Jones Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Paul's Creek Baptist Church in Cana, VA. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Forsyth County EMS, 911 East Fifth St, Winston Salem, NC 27101 in appreciation of their dedication and faithful service, or to the Jones Family Cemetery c/o Helen Vaughn, Epworth Church Rd, Cana, VA 24317.
