Bernice Hazel Greear Sutphin

Mrs. Bernice Hazel Greear Sutphin, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday morning, January 17, 2016, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Sutphin was born August 31, 1930, in Russell County, VA, the daughter of the late Charles Ernest and Pauline Crowder Greear. Bernice retired from Brown-Wooten Mills and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Bennett of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Ron Sutphin, Sr. and Jane Sutphin of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Ron Sutphin, Jr. and his wife, Mamie, of Ararat, and Will Sutphin and his wife, Charity, Ashley Bennett and her fiancée, Dustin Hull, and Douglas Bennett and his special friend, Yana Welch, all of Mount Airy; three stepgrandchildren, Heather Chaney, Joshua Chaney, and Tyler Easter; six great-grandchildren, Sid Sutphin, Mac Sutphin, Charlie Sutphin, Molly Thomas, Lua Hull, and Draven Hull; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Annabelle Marion of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sutphin was preceded in death by her husband, Hoston Charlie Sutphin; two sisters, Agnes Stallard and Arnell Greear; and two brothers, Cleo Greear and Glenn Greear. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Dr. Floyd Enzor officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the home of Ron Sutphin, Sr. and Jane Sutphin at 196 Welch Road, Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Central Continuing Care and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
