Mr. Bernie Loyd Johnson, 70, of Mount Airy, entered into his eternal resting place on Thursday morning, April 21, 2011, from the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Johnson was born March 2, 1941, in Surry County, son of the late John Frank and Olevia Hemmings Johnson. He was a devoted husband and father and a dear friend to so many. Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Andrea Mosley Johnson of the home; three sons and a special daughter-in-law, Loyd and Brandy Johnson of Mount Airy, and Mark Johnson and Elliott Johnson, both of the home; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Vera Moseley, Foye and Birchard Younger, Georgie and Aubrey Mosley, Dorothy Riggs, and Geraldine and Rayburn Sykes, all of Mount Airy, and Kathleen and Alex Hege of Lexington; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Wade and Mary Lou Johnson, Billy and Rita Johnson, and Jimmy and Nelda Johnson, all of Mount Airy, and Paul and Joann Johnson of North Wilkesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by two brothers, Greer Johnson and Otis Johnson. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 23, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Jessup officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, April 22, 2011, from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for all their special love and care given. The family would also like to thank Chrystal Peele for her loving friendship and support during Bernie's illness.
