Bernie William Johnson

Mr. Bernie William Johnson, age 84, of Cana, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center.  Mr. Johnson was born in Carroll County on December 17, 1933, to Roosevelt Johnson and Mamie Emily Hall Johnson Combs.  He proudly served our country in the United States Army and was retired from Patterson Automotive.  He faithfully served his God and church at Oak Ridge Baptist Church where he was also a deacon.  Mr. Johnson was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather whose memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of so many.  Surviving is his dear wife of sixty years, Mildred Leftwich Johnson; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Tom Richardson; a son and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Tracey Johnson, and Delma Johnson; grandsons, David Johnson, Michael Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Wesley Johnson, Daniel Puckett, and Tyler Richardson; great grandchildren, Ethan, Jacob, Demi, Ramsey, Zachary, and Aurelia; sisters, Irene King, Willie Sue Walker, Imogene Combs, Helen Hiatt, Barbara Jo and Ronald Jarrell, and Myrtle and James Melton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clayton and Ethel Combs, and Jack and Dot Combs; and many dear friends.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Johnson; his step father, Dolphus Combs; sisters, Betty Gentry and Pat King; and brothers, Clyde Johnson and Bobby Combs.  The family will receive friends Sunday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church from 2:00 until the funeral service at 4:00 PM.  Services will be conducted by Rev. David Sechrist.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 & Mt. Airy Post 2019.
