Bernie Ellis Waddell

Mr. Bernie Ellis Waddell, 74, of 155 Laila Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009, at his home. Mr. Waddell was born October 30, 1934, in Surry County, son of the late Dewey and Bertie Easter Waddell. An entrepreneur, Bernie owned and operated Waddell Hosiery for many years, and later retired from B and M Wholesale, a family-owned business. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Blanche Jones Waddell of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Michael Bullins of West Grove, PA; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Vonda Waddell of Mount Airy; four grandchildren and a spouse, Bryan and Erin Waddell and Jonathan Waddell, all of Mount Airy, and Emilie Bullins and Michael Bullins, both of West Grove, PA; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy Thomas of Pilot Mountain, Shirley Pell of Mount Airy, and Brenda and Larry Goad of Hillsville, VA; and a brother, Jackie Waddell of North Carolina. In addition to his parents, Mr. Waddell was preceded in death by two brothers, Grady Waddell and Robert Waddell. At Bernie's request, the family will celebrate his life with a private ceremony. The family would like to express their gratitude to their family and friends for the prayers, love, support, and condolences shown to them during this special time in their lives.
