Bernie Robert Young

Mr. Bernie Robert Young, age 85 of Mount Airy passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday evening March 14, 2024, at SECU Hospice Care Center in Yadkinville, NC.  He was born March 21, 1938, in Surry County to the late Theodore Roosevelt Young and Anna Williams Young.  He was retired as the owner of B and B Hosiery.  Bernie knew every aspect of the hosiery business from the top to the bottom.  Mr. Young was a hardworking man who loved to travel, and he grew up attending Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church.  Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Becky Martin and Steve, Donna Gunnell and David, and Alison Jones and David; son, Bernie Robert Young, Jr. and Wanda; grandchildren, Kristen, Kayla, Theo, DeAnna, Shawn, Lindsey, Blake, Jenna, Hannah, Josh, Bobby and Steven; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Haywood and Alyene Young, and Revel and Bonnie Young; special nephew, Teddy Young; his Belgian Malinois, Ava; grand dog, Raven; stepchildren, Sharon Speas Petree and David, Cindy Speas Moore and Myron, and Kenneth Speas, Jr. and Cheryl; step grandchildren, Sophie Speas, Brianna Speas Ward, and Neil Speas; and a host of other family and friends.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Young was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Bonnie Young; two sisters, Pauline Payne and Libby Goins; and a brother, Dick Young.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 20, 2024, at Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church at 2:00pm with Dr. David Sparks and Rev. Tony Goins officiating.   Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening March 19, 2024, from 6:00 until 8:00pm at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care or to the charity of your choice.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
