Bertha Frances Marion Chilton

Mrs. Bertha Frances Marion Chilton, 91, of 2556 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Chilton was born January 27, 1916, in Surry County, the first of eleven children born to Coley Lee and Nancy Lettie Atkins Marion. She retired from Pine State Knitwear and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Bertha was a member and Sunday school teacher at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church for many years. She transferred her membership to Piney Grove Baptist Church in 1974, and continued to teach Sunday school with the class subsequently named in her honor. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Frank Dee Chilton of the home; twin daughters and a special son-in-law, Kathy and Doug Simpson of Pinnacle and Kay Chilton Draughn of Dobson; a granddaughter, Emily Simpson Faw of Pilot Mountain; a great-grandson, Hunter Douglas Faw of Pilot Mountain; three sisters, Sylvia Johnson of Mount Airy, Daisy Robertson Smith of Dobson, and Gracie Atkins of Ararat; and three sisters-in-law, Lona Marion and Stella Simpson Marion, both of Mount Airy, and Carol Jean Marion Atkins of Ararat. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chilton was preceded in death by triplet sons, Ronnie Chilton, Richey Chilton, and Rodney Chilton; two sisters, Mamie Marion and Stella Lewis; and five brothers, Melvin Marion, Gratsie Marion, Ray Marion, Billy Marion, and Coy Lee Marion. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 14, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Piney Grove Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Kermit L. Gray, and burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church.
