Mrs. Bertha Levada "Bert" Childress Holt, 82, widow of Mr. James Monroe Holt, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday January 18, 2009 at her home while surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Holt was born in Surry County on April 9, 1926 to the late Grover Haston and Flora Belle Bledsoe Childress. She was retired from Adams-Millis, where she worked as a knitter for thirty-five years, and a devoted member of Salem Fork Baptist Church. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter and care giver, Betty Sue Norman and husband Benny of Dobson; three grandchildren, Renee' Norman Morgan of the home, Benji Norman of Dobson and James Autie Key of State Road; a great-grandson, who brought her much joy, Reed Morgan of the home; two sisters, Geneva Pendry of Kernersville and Madelene Holbrook of Lewisville and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clayton and Nettie Childress of Kernersville and Leonard and Louise Childress of Ararat. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Holt was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen H. Key and an infant daughter, Janice Ann Holt and an infant son, James J. Holt; two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday January 20, 2009 at Salem Fork Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tim Burton, Rev. Tom Parker and Rev. Benny Norman with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her very special care givers, Bonnie Weddle and Kathy Ridenhour and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, Swansa Bryant and Cathy Johnson, for all the love and compassionate care given during this difficult time.
