Miss Bertha Ann Venable, 98, of 2067 Siloam Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, June 1, 2009, at Central Continuing Care. Miss Venable was born May 4, 1911, in Surry County, daughter of the late Sherman Roscoe and Sarah Lou Keaton Venable. She retired from Spencer's Inc. after 32 years of service and was a member of Blackwater United Methodist Church. She is survived by three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Faye and Jim Stanley and Alma Lou Vernon, all of Dobson, and Carol Lee and Taylor Flippin of Siloam; a brother and sister-in-law, Roby and Earnestine Venable of Mount Airy; a half-sister and her husband, Rita and Lonnie Atkins of Mount Airy; a half-brother, Garnett Venable of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Miss Venable was preceded in death by two sisters, Ollie Mae Quesinberry and Lola Denny; two brothers, Weldon Venable and Floyd Venable; and a half-brother, Troy Venable. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Blackwater United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ted Turman and the Rev. Marion Fulk officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at Blackwater United Methodist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and the staff of Central Continuing Care for their love and kindness shown to Bertha during her illness.
