Mrs. Bertie Lee Nichols Badgett, 88, of White Plains, passed away Thursday evening, January 28, 2010, at her home. Mrs. Badgett was born December 8, 1921, in Surry County, daughter of the late Charlie Merlin and Lottie Bingman Nichols. Bertie retired as a teaching assistant from Surry County Schools and was a member of White Plains Friends Meeting. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry Badgett, Ricky and Debbie Badgett, and Jean Badgett, all of White Plains; five grandchildren and their spouses, Todd and Amanda Badgett, Chad and Paige Badgett, Betsy and Daryll Johnson, and Garth Badgett, all of White Plains, and Brooke Badgett of Cornelius; six great-grandchildren, Taylor Badgett, Jordan Badgett, Calvin Johnson, Brett Johnson, Nick Badgett, and Sadie Badgett; two sisters, Connie Draughn and Marie "Jack" Nichols, both of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Badgett was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Brady Badgett; a son, Larry Nichols "Nicky" Badgett; five sisters, Martha Key, Etta Atkins, Myrtle Brintle, Alma "Polly" Nichols, and Dora Nichols; and five brothers, Tom Nichols, Merlin Nichols, Sam Nichols, Chester Nichols, and Harvey Nichols. The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 31, 2010, at 4:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jake Penley officiating. Burial will follow in the White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to the White Plains Friends Meeting, P.O. Box 3, White Plains, NC 27031. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to her caregivers, Diane McMillian, Bobbi Wright, Amanda King, and Teresa Moore, and to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Candi Lawson, Sandy Tilley, and Penny Smith, for their love, care, and compassion shown to Bertie during her illness.
