Mrs. Bessie Hodges Cave, age 85 of Mt. Airy, formerly of Elkin passed away at Surry Community Nursing Center in Mt. Airy on Sunday evening January 21, 2007. She was born in Surry County On December 10, 1921 to the late Richard Pless Hodges Sr. and the late Electra Hodge Hodges. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Edgar (Pete) Cave; two sons Richard Alvin Cave and Roy Lee Cave; two grandchildren Cynthia Anettee Cave and Ricky Lawrence; one great grandchild Mary Ann Flippin. Mrs. Cave was a member of Snow Hill Baptist and was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law Peggy and Lawrence Flippin of Lowgap, Edith and Harold Flippen of Mt. Airy, Carolyn Cave Bodehamer of Mt. Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law Joseph Edward and Carolyn R. Cave of Dobson, Delmar and Patricia Cave of Dobson, Linda Cave of Dobson, Eva Cave of Mt. Airy; fifteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren; seven sisters Alice Mitchell of Dobson, Vallie Bryant of Elkin, Etta White of Dobson, Frances Bean of Germanton, Lois Davis of Mt. Airy, Lettie Reid of Raleigh, Yvonne Smith of Galax, Va.; one brother Richard Pless Hodges Jr. of Wisconsin .
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Larry Stone, Rev. Mark Sumner, and Rev. Willie Bryant will officiate the services. Her body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson until carried to the church to lie in state 30 min. prior to the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 PM. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mt. Airy, NC 27030
