Bessie Lela Easter, 96, of Mount Airy, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 2, 2009. Born May 8, 1912, to Greenberry and Annie Easter in Carroll County, VA, she retired from Spencer's, Inc. after 27 years of service and was a member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Earnest and Ruth Easter of Mount Airy; a sister, Hattie Jones of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, the Rev. Ricky and Debbie Easter of Henderson, David and Donna Easter of Mount Airy, and Janet Bruner of Winston-Salem; six great grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ms. Easter was preceded in death by two brothers, Troy Easter and Obie Easter; and two sisters, America Spencer and Grace Martin. The family will receive friends Monday night, May 4, 2009, from 7:00 to 9:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at her son's home at 147 Pioneer Drive in Mount Airy. Services will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Fancy Gap Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dwight Sechrist and the Rev. Ricky Easter. Ms. Easter will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Flat Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
