Mrs. Bette Sue Childress Creed, 78, of 222 Valley View Road, Mount Airy, widow of John R. Creed, Sr., passed away Thursday morning, November 1, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Creed was born April 29, 1929, in Davie County, to the late Claude Swanson and Maggie Lou Hill Childress. She was co-owner of Wolfe Brothers Furniture in State Road and a member of Mount Airy Friends Church, where she had served on various committees. She had served in various civic clubs in many capacities and was a homemaker. Surviving are a daughter, Pam Creed Long and husband, David, of New London; a son, John R. Creed, Jr. and wife, Robin, of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Brian Long and Wesley Long, both of New London, and Madison Creed and Maggie Creed, both of Mount Airy; a sister, Vera Childress Johnson of Scottsdale, AZ; a sister-in-law, Tee Childress of High Point; two brothers-in-law, Perry Creed of Mount Airy and Richard "Dick" Creed and wife, Marie, of Clemmons; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Creed was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Donald Childress and C.S. Childress. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, November 4, 2007, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Valdimir Strejcek. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mount Airy Friends Church, 109 West Wilson Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or the charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to express a special thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially CNAs Jennifer Hiatt, Pam Gentry, and Ann Anderson.
