Bette Davis Whitaker

Mrs. Bette "Betsy" Davis Whitaker, 82, formerly from Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home in Boonsboro, MD. Mrs. Whitaker was born July 20, 1930, in Surry County, to the late Jesse and Sadie Wolfe Davis. She worked in the banking industry for over 38 years, retiring in 1991. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Jim Wanger of Jefferson, MD; and four grandchildren, Matthew, Katie, Andrew, and Joseph Wanger, all of Jefferson, MD; a sister, Lawana Murphy of Sparta; and two brothers, Jimmy Davis of Dobson and Morris Davis of Greenville. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitaker was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Gilbert "Gib" Whitaker; and a sister, Virginia Mosley. The family will receive friends Friday, August 10, 2012, from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at Grace Moravian Church. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM at Grace Moravian Church, with the Rev. Tony Hayworth officiating. Burial will follow in God's Acre. The family may be contacted at other times at the home of Graham and Kay Mosley, 1090 Bray Ford Road, Dobson.
