Mrs. Betty Jo Marshall Blackburn, 69, of Cana, VA, widow of Grover Cleveland "G.C." Blackburn, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Blackburn was born May 9, 1938, in Carroll County, VA, daughter of the late Oscar and Lillie Mae East Marshall. She was a teacher's assistant in the Carroll County School System. Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Huguenard of Valparaiso, IN; a son and daughter-in-law, David H. and Renee Blackburn of Satellite Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Charles Huguenard, II, Candice Huguenard, Sean Huguenard, Michael Huguenard, Sarah Blackburn, and John Blackburn; seven sisters and three brothers-in-law, Gertrude Boles, Ruth Whitaker, and Rachel Starnes, all of Granite Falls, Mary Chappell and Joyce and Phillip Berrier, all of Cana, VA, Edna and John Shelton of Radford, VA, and Janette and Tom Good of Stoneville; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, E.G. "Elex" Marshall of Lambsburg, VA, Fred and Lucinda Marshall and Jean Marshall, all of Mount Airy, and Helen Marshall of Galax, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Blackburn was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Benton Marshall. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Don Bryant, Sr., the Rev. Tommy Vass, and the Rev. Jimmy McCraw, with eulogies by her children, David and Deborah. Burial will follow in the Chestnut Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lambsburg, VA. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Doris Lyons, Linda Lineberry, and Iva Lee Barneycastle for the compassion and loving care shown to Betty Jo during her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Fellowship Tabernacle, 18 Chapel Lane, Lambsburg, VA 24351.
