Mrs. Betty Jo Archer Chilton, 79, of 1000 Ridgecrest Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007. Mrs. Chilton was born March 20, 1928, in Orange County, to the late Raymond Stewart and Lillian Knight Archer. She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church. She is survived three daughters and a son-in-law, Cathy Chilton of Ararat, VA, Bobbie and Johnny Wood of Greensboro, and Teresa Chilton of Mount Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary and Jeannie Chilton of Mount Airy and Eric Chilton of Greensboro; seven grandchildren and spouses, Ashley and Luke Graham, Evan Chilton, and Courtney and Daniel Pike, all of Mount Airy, Abbie Wood of Boone, and Hannah Wood, Robert Bryce Chilton, and Alex Meares Chilton, all of Greensboro; a great grandson, Ryan Graham of Mount Airy; a sister, Wilma Shouse; a brother, B.D. Archer; and a sister-in-law, Jane Archer of Winston-Salem. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chilton was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Elwood Chilton; a stepfather, Benjamin Archer; a sister, Katherine Smith; and a brother, Robert G. Archer. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church. The service will be conducted by Dr. Steve Lindsley. The Chilton family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. A committal service will be held at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem following the family visitation. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Robert Elwood Chilton Scholarship Fund, c/o Mount Airy Community Foundation, P.O. Box 2851, Hickory, NC 28603.
