Betty Edwards

Mrs. Betty Faye Byrd Edwards, 88, of Mt. Airy, passed away at Northern Regional Hospital, Sunday, May 16, 2021.  She was born in Surry County August 8, 1932 to the late John and Mae Carter Byrd.  Mrs. Edwards was a faithful member of Haymore Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.  She retired from the Mount Airy City School System after many years of dedicated service.  Mrs. Edwards loved people and enjoyed caring for others.  She delighted in teaching young children to read as she did for many years in the school system.  One of her biggest pleasures in life was seeing the children she taught in kindergarten, as adults and relished memories they shared with her.  Mrs. Edwards enjoyed making various crafts. She was a wonderful cook and loved to share food and meals with her family and friends.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 52 years Johnny Cecil Edwards.  Mrs. Edwards will be lovingly remembered by her sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Melinda Edwards, Derek and Robin Edwards; grandchildren, Joshua Edwards and Megan Iverson, and Chad and Heather Edwards; great-grandchildren, Payton Edwards, Morgan Edwards, and Colton Edwards; a brother-in-law Burley Edwards and wife Dawn; and lifelong friends and neighbors, Kate Badgett and Amy Badgett.  A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Oakdale Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Thursday from 1:30 PM until the time to leave for the service.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Haymore Baptist Church, 319 Rockford St., Mt.
