Betty Jane Harrell Gardner

Mrs. Betty Jane Harrell Gardner, 78, of 54 Woods Edge Road, Cana, VA, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Gardner was born December 27, 1932, in Surry County, to the late Arthur and Fannie Vernon Harrell. She was employed in the textile industry for many years. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Trudy and Randy Golding and Deborah Payne, all of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Rickey and Brenda Gardner of Cana, VA; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Louise Gardner of Cana, VA, Margaret Dalton of Pulaski, VA, and Lorraine and Edd Tate and Kathleen and Blaine Montgomery, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Gardner; two infant sons, Garland Gardner and David Gardner; and five brothers, Robert Harrell, Junior Harrell, Vestal Harrell, Powell Harrell, and Elmo Harrell. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow in the Cana Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
