Betty Lou Gwyn

Mrs. Betty Lou Durham Gwyn, 89, of Mount Airy passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy.  She was born in Stokes County, on October 23, 1931 to the late James Graham Durham and Marie Durham Chilton.  Mrs. Gwyn began her career as a registered nurse at Martin Memorial Hospital then finishing her career at Northern Regional Hospital (formerly Northern Hospital of Surry County).  She was a faithful member of Flat Rock Baptist Church while her health allowed.  Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.  She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, James W. Gwyn and Sherry, of Lexington, North Carolina, Gary Dean Gwyn and Frances, of Mount Airy, North Carolina, Cathy Gwyn of King, North Carolina; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Dolly Montgomery of Greenville, South Carolina; a sister-in-law, Wilma Durham of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gwyn was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Elmo Gwyn, Sr.; an infant daughter, Betty Marie Gwyn, a son, Floyd Elmo Gwyn, Jr.; three brothers, James Durham, Bobby Durham, and Donald Durham.  A private service will be held by the family.  Mrs. Gwyn will lie-in-state on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church, P.O.
