Mrs. Betty Sue Phillips Johnson, 82, of Mt. Airy, passed away at Northern Regional Hospital, Tuesday, May 25, 2021. She was born in Surry County January 31, 1939, to the late Johnson and Rachel Stone Phillips. Mrs. Johnson was a loving mother, grandmother and precious friend to many. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and was known for delivering a cake or pie to them for birthdays, special occasions or just to show how much she cared. She took every opportunity to remind people how much they were loved by the many cards she mailed. Mrs. Johnson was a long-time dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church before becoming a member and dedicated her service to Blue’s Grove Baptist Church where she was a member of the WMU and assisted with My Father’s Table Ministry. She will be lovingly remembered by her son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Amy Easter; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Gail and Harold Moorefield; grandson Jordan Easter; step grandchildren and spouses, Kristi Johnson Marion, Kelli Johnson Billings and David, and Brady Johnson and Stephanie; great-granddaughter Kaeleigh Easter; step-great-grandchildren, Ella Marion, Slate Marion, Luke Billings, Jasmyn Billings, Lily Gene Billings, Brooklyn Johnson, Lanie Kaye Johnson; and many wonderful friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Johnson. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Blue’s Grove Baptist Church with her Pastor Travis Sechrist and Bro. Sammy Lawson officiating. Her body will lie-in-state at Moody Funeral Home Thursday morning from 8:00 until 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Blue’s Grove WMU c/o Susan Burcham, 2177 Caudle Dr., Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
