Betty Lou Davis Jones

Mrs. Betty Lou Davis Jones, 80, of Mount Airy, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 10, 2010, from Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Jones was born January 10, 1930, in Portsmouth, OH, to Frank and Mona Boggs Davis. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving are her devoted husband, the Rev. George Junior Jones of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and the Rev. Butch Holder and Libby and Clay Edwards, all of Mount Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis and Phyllis Gates of Ararat, VA, and Dale McCormick of Mount Airy; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Edwards; two sons, Robert McCree Gates, Sr. and George William Gates; three sisters; and two brothers. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Butch Holder and the Rev. Keith Love officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Holy Cross Baptist Church.
