Mrs. Betty McLachlan Jones, 84, of 1000 Ridgecrest Lane, Mount Airy, died Thursday, November 20, 2008, at her home at Ridgecrest Retirement Center. Born November 9, 1924, in Yatesboro, PA, she was the daughter of Dora Morrison McLachlan and Robert Hotchkiss McLachlan. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bartlett Kyle Jones, Jr. She is survived by a son, Bartlett Kyle Jones III and his wife, Deborah Jones of Mount Pleasant, SC; a daughter, Michelle Jones Spencer and her husband, Dr. Sidney Walker Spencer of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Kathryn M. Spencer and Sidney W. Spencer, Jr.; and a sister, Roberta M. Buchanan of Indiana, PA. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, where she was a Sponsor of Episcopal Young Churchmen. A graduate of Indiana University, Mrs. Jones received her degree in nursing. In addition to her love of nursing, Mrs. Jones was an enthusiastic bridge player, a member of the Wayside Garden Club, and the Danville Golf Club. She also enjoyed painting and calligraphy. Funeral services will be conducted by The Reverend Ray Hanna and The Reverend Nelson Hodgkins at Trinity Episcopal Church in Mount Airy at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 22, 2008. Interment will be in the Highland Burial Park in Danville, VA, with graveside services at 3:00 Sunday afternoon, November 23, 2008. The family will receive friends in the church parlor at Trinity Episcopal Church 30 minutes prior to the Saturday service. Memorial contributions can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their love and appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care where their mother received such loving and compassionate care. They would also like to thank Ridgecrest Retirement and Assisted Living Community for enabling her to live four joyous years, where she was part of a family who enveloped her with love and care during her prolonged illness. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Jones family.
