Mrs. Betty June McMillian Tate, 82, went to sleep here on earth on Saturday evening and woke up in heaven on Sunday, November 21, 2021. Mrs. Tate was born February 27, 1939, in Carroll County, to the late Robert Loman and Bertie Mazie Jones McMillian. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved God, her family, and her church. She is survived by her children, Sheila Boyd, Karen and Ernie Pruitt, Cindy Franklin, Dr. Darrell and Tina Tate, Darren and Stephanie Tate, and Shannon and Chad Phipps; her grandchildren, Chris Vaughn, Ashley and Brian Reece, Amber and Blake Bowman, Evan Pruitt, Andrew and Jade Tate, Daniel and Taylor Tate, Bailee Newsome, Adison Phipps, Adam and April Vaughn, Michael Boyd, Emily and Adam Canosa, Mason Franklin, Joshua and Courtney Tate, Eli Tate, and Isaac Phipps; eleven great-grandchildren and one on the way (Baby Tate); a sister and brother-in-law, Belinda and Ray McMillian; many nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Peggy Grey and Shirley Allen. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas “Bud” Tate; two sons-in-law, Clark Boyd and Greg Franklin; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Barbara and James Hall, Blanche and William Murphy, Beatrice Mitchell, and Bonnie and Melvin Jones; a brother and sister-in-law, Foy Ray and Barbara McMillian; and four infant brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Highland Park Baptist Church, with Dr. Darrell Tate officiating. Burial will follow at The Peoples Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Highland Park Baptist Church, 1247 Grove Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
