Betty Lou Cassell Nester passed away on May 26 after a long battle with dementia. Born on September 25, 1933, in Mount Airy, NC to Laticia (Tishie) and Sam Cassell.
Betty retired from Newport News shipbuilding in 1998 after 11 years. Betty loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and was a member of First Friends Church in Hampton, Va. She loved her church friends and gave many hours volunteering for the church.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Osborne (Red) Nester; infant daughter, Vickie Leigh Nester; brother, David Cassell; sister, Dorothy “Dot” Clifton and infant sister, Imogene Cassell; and a son-in-law, Bob Conway. She is survived by her three children, Debbie Conway of Poquoson, Sam Nester (Mary Ellen) of Poquoson, and Randy Nester of Newport News, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and by a brother, Bill Cassell of White Plains, NC.
A special thank you to all the in-home nurses for special help and love with mom, especially Suzie and Amanda.
The family received friends from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm Tuesday, May 31st at Claytor-Rollins Funeral Home in Poquoson, Va. A graveside service was held on June 1 at 3:00 pm at Peninsula Memorial.
