Betty Lou Payne

Ms. Betty Lou Payne, age 84, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Novant Health Forsyth Hospital in Winston-Salem. Ms. Payne was born in Surry County on February 6, 1941, to the late Alexander Lemul Winesett and Bertha Murphy Winesett Burnett. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she’ll be deeply missed by all who knew her. Ms. Payne was longtime and faithful member of White Plains Baptist Church and had worked as the church secretary for many years as well. She leaves behind to cherish her memory daughter and son-in-law, Joy Chappell (Dale); son and daughter-in-law, Brandal Payne (Stacy); grandchildren, Amanda Maderia, Erica Lawson, Andrea Goad, Christian Payne , Isaiah Payne, Katlyn Castillo, and Georgia Payne; fifteen great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Winesett; special friend, Gayle Gibson. In addition to her parents, Ms. Payne was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Mondale Thomas Payne; daughter, Jan Denise Payne; son, Van Alan Payne. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at White Plains Baptist Church at 11:30 AM with Bro. David Tucker, Bro. Dale Hawks and Rev. Timmy Crotts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 10:30 AM until the time of the service.
