Mrs. Betty Jean Gammons Marshall, 73, of 1401 McBride Road, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Marshall was born April 7, 1938, in Surry County, to the late Abe and Lelia Goins Gammons. She retired from Spencer's Inc. after 40 years of service and was a CNA for many years. Betty was a member of Flippin Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Roger Dale Marshall of the home; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Regina and Eddie Mundy, Dawn and John Walker, and Anita and Jeff Smith, all of Mount Airy, and Lawana Grimsley of Kathleen, GA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Tina Marshall and Eric and Angela Marshall, all of Mount Airy; her special dog, Butch; eight grandchildren, Jessica Gish, Candice Grimsley, Paula Walker, John Michael Walker, Jordan Smith, Steven Marshall, Sheldon Marshall, and Austin Mundy; two great-grandchildren, Ty Gish and Landon Gish; a brother-in-law, Lorain Lambert; a special niece, Christine Lambert; and special friends, Shelby Wood, Polly France, and Codi and Montanna Kuhlman. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by a sister, Georgia Lambert. The funeral service will be held Sunday, June 12, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Flippin Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Burton and the Rev. Ken Mashall officiating. Burial will follow in the Korners Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Flippin Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Fannie Burkhart, 2337 McBride Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family will be meeting at the home of her son, Steve Marshall, 145 Beasley Road, Mount Airy.
