Betty Ann Boone Johnson McKinney

Mrs. Betty Ann Boone Johnson McKinney, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away at her home on Monday, October 4, 2021. She was born on April 17, 1936, in Smyth County, VA, to the late Gilbert Lee Boone and Edna Marie Hutton Boone Defriece. She was retired from Proctor Silex after 32 years of dedicated service. Granny loved her family and spending time with them. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy and Travis Bunker, and Lisa Wolford; two sons, Terry Wayburn Johnson, and Barry Wade Johnson; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Lyons, Regina and Jim Griffith, and Patricia and Carol Shores; a brother, James and Kathy Defriece; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McKinney was preceded in death by her first husband, Elbert Wayburn Johnson; her second husband, Merle Olen McKinney; two twin granddaughters, Laken and Lauren Johnson; a sister, Doris Steele; and her stepfather, Houston Defriece. Funeral services for Mrs. McKinney will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021, at Pine Ridge Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday at the church one hour prior to the service.
