Mrs. Betty Jo Parker Mitchell, 57, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday morning, January 13, 2018, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Mitchell was born September 20, 1960, in Smyth County, VA, the daughter of the late Carl and Ollie Parks Parker. Betty managed a local group home for many years for New Destinations, Inc. She is survived by her husband, Ernest Dale Mitchell of the home; two stepdaughters, Donna Lee Waller of Ivanhoe, VA, and Virginia Michelle Wild of Rocky Mount, VA; three stepgrandchildren, James Tyler Doss of Paint Bank, VA, Ryan Brady Cooper of Ivanhoe, VA, and Dalton Jesse Wild of Rocky Mount, VA; a brother and sister-in-law, Tommy Ray and Dianne Parker of Max Meadows, VA; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Beverly Gillespie; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Parker. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 18, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Lee Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Boonville Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
