Betty Mae Morton

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our loving mother and friend to all whose lives she touched.  Mrs. Betty Mae McBride Morton, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, January 3, 2020, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.  She was born November 17, 1934, in Surry County, to the late Edgar and Maggie Marshall McBride.  She lived a full life as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She loved to read her Bible, work in her flowers, spend time with her family and friends, and cook.  She was the oldest and longest living member of Woodland Baptist Church in Mount Airy.  She retired after 30+ years of working at Flowers Bread Company.  She never met a stranger and enjoyed interacting with her customers.  She always had a smile on her face and a kind word to offer to anyone she met.  She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jack R. Morton, Jr. and Anna Morton, Jerry D. Morton and late wife, Angel, and Barry and Tamera Morton, all of Mount Airy; a daughter, Bonnie Morton of Pine Level; her grandchildren, Jarad Morton and Gina, Ashley Morton, Christopher and Kaitlin Lister, Amy Puckett, Nikki Williams, Jessica and Tommy Holland, Melissa Watters, Gabe Morton, Jake McBride, Daniel and Sarah Morton, Kirstie and Jess Jones, and Sydney and Devin Freeman; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy and Larry Badgett and Polly Hall; and a brother and sister-in-law, Edgar and Mildred McBride.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Morton was preceded in death by her husband, Jack R. Morton, Sr.; a daughter, Mary Margaret Morton; a great-grandson, Cayden S. Morton; four brothers, Don McBride, Billy McBride, Bobby McBride, and Raymond McBride; and a sister, Mollie M. Jones.  She will be dearly missed by us all and will live forever in our hearts.  The funeral service will be held Monday, January 6, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Woodland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Pete King officiating.  Burial will follow in the McBride Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  At other times, the family welcomes friends to the home of Barry and Tamera Morton at 2150 South Main Street, Mount Airy.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Woodland Baptist Church, 331 Highland Drive, Mount Airy, NC  27030; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Mount Airy, NC  27030.
