Mrs. Betty June Bennett Robertson, 81, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 19, 2010, at her home with family and friends by her side. Mrs. Robertson was born December 11, 1928, in Surry County, daughter of the late Caleb Henderson and Evelyn Myrtle Tolbert Bennett. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Betty is survived by her husband of 63 years, William Perry Robertson of the home; a daughter and special son-in-law, Sheree and Steve Barnard of Mount Airy; four grandchildren and their spouses, Lara Bell-Johnson and Theodore Johnson and Amanda Bell-White and Leon White, all of Elizabethtown, and Chadwick Steven and Amanda Jones Barnard and Justin Corey and Tabitha King Barnard, all of Mount Airy; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Devanté Howard, Cheyenne Marie Daniels, Zachary Clayton Johnson, and Brooke Alexandra Johnson, all of Elizabethtown, and Evan Chadwick Barnard and Charles Maxwell "Max" Barnard, both of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Morris Branscome of Hillsville, VA; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Smith Bennett of Siloam; three special nieces, Archer Bennett Perkins of Dobson, Caroline Bennett Lam of Galax, VA, and Jane Bennett of Siloam; and two special nephews, John Bennett Branscome of Washington, D.C., and David Morris Branscome of Tallahassee, FL. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Robertson was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Anne Robertson Layton; and three brothers, Caleb Henderson Bennett, Jr., Archie Henderson Bennett, and Jack Norwood Bennett. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 22, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Honorable Judge Aaron Moses Massey officiating. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. However, the family will greet family and friends immediately following the service at the cemetery. The family may also be contacted at the home of Sheree and Steve Barnard, 134 Savannah Lane, Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the love, care, and compassion shown to Betty during her illness.
