Betty Shelton

Mrs. Betty Hawks Shelton, 81, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2020, at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Mrs. Shelton was born June 24, 1938, in Surry County, the daughter of the late William Henry and Sophia Smith Hawks.  Betty was a wife, mother, and grandmother, who loved her family very much.  She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roy Leon Shelton; two sons, Allan Shelton and Randy Shelton; a granddaughter, Katlyn S. Snow and her husband, Devin; two great-grandchildren, Skylar Snow and Emma Snow; and two sisters, Loretta Hawks Mabe and Brenda Hawks Joyce.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by a sister, Tiny Hawks Lawson; and a brother, Curtis Hawks.  The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 20, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Joe Smith and Mike Hiatt officiating.  Interment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC  27030.
