Mrs. Betty Norman Steele, 79, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2006. Mrs. Steele, a native of Surry County, was an active member of Bannertown Baptist Church for 65 years. In Greenville, she was an active member of Arlington Boulevard Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Gibbs Sunday School Class. She enjoyed church music, her family, and visits from her friends. She was a retiree of Hanes Hosiery and Goodwill Industries. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Steele Harris of Greenville; a granddaughter and spouse, Laura and Bill Brooks of Kansas City, MO; a great granddaughter, Kathryn Brooks of Kansas City, MO; a sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Sam Wall of Woodbridge, VA; two brothers, Donald Norman of Statesville and Jerry Norman of Nashville, TN; two sisters-in-law, Shelby Steele of Mount Airy and Nancy Norman of Nashville, TN; and eleven nieces and nephews, Matthew Wall, Dale Norman, Brian Norman, David Steele, Donna McDaniel, Barbara Badgett, Teresa Moore, Eddie Inman, Jennie Rucker, Jackie Conner, and Mitchell Steele. Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Leonard Steele, III; and her parents, William R. and Mary Welch Norman. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 27, 2006, at 11:00 AM at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Greenville. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Steve Davis. The family will also receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Saturday, October 28, 2006, from 12:00 noon until the time to go to the cemetery for a graveside service at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Arlington Boulevard Baptist Church New Building Fund, 1007 West Arlington Boulevard, Greenville, NC 27834.
