Ms. Betty Jo Brintle Stewart, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Central Continuing Care. Ms. Stewart was born August 1, 1929, in Surry County, to James Gurney and Lula Bell Mauldin Brintle. She retired from Spencer's Inc. and was a member of Dover Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Wayne York and wife, Paula, of Greensboro and Greg Stewart and spouse, John Kawaharada, of Los Angeles, CA; two grandchildren, Kimberly York Sloan and husband, Carey, and Christopher York and wife, Angela, all of Greensboro; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Brame, Joseph York, and Adam York, all of Greensboro; and a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Joyce Brintle of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Ms. Stewart was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Turner. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Dover Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. J. Cecil Hill and the Rev. Todd E. Byrd. Mrs. Stewart will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Central Continuing Care and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative for the love and wonderful care given to Ms. Stewart during her illness.
