Betty Sue Lawless Handy

Mrs. “Betty Sue” Lawless Handy, age 86 of Stuart, Virginia passed at her home with family by her side. She was born in Patrick County on January 26, 1937, to the late Otis and Gertie Shelton Lawless; In addition to her parents, Mrs. Handy was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Gilmer Handy; a son, Charles Robert Handy; a grandson, Justin Daniel Spangler; one brother Otis Lawless Jr.; two sisters, Mary Cassady and Ruth Cassady; brothers and sister in-laws, Denver “Dink” and Carlene Handy, Hassell Handy, Elsie Hodges.  Betty retired from United Elastic where she was employed for over 40 years.  She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Lisa Spangler and husband, Joey of Stuart, with whom she spent her last days with; grandchildren, Jordan and Mary Spangler, Kirsten Spangler, Pandy and Lee Anderson, great grandchildren; Mia and Korben Spangler, Jacob and Andrew Payne; two sisters, Margaret Howerton; Shelby Fain and Melvin; one brother, Sammy Lawless and Willie; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Donice Vaughn, Betty and David Biggs, Marry Lee and David Young, Garland Handy, Billy and Debra Handy, and Leon and Nellie Handy; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral for Mrs. Handy will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Mayo Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.
