Betty Kirkman York

Mrs. Betty Lou Kirkman York, 73 of Mount Airy passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at Northern Regional Hospital. Mrs. York was born on July 8, 1948, in Surry County to the late Gurney and Dessie Pell Kirkman. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her. Mrs. York retired from Rose’s Department Store after 54 years of service. Betty’s love of song and dance lead her to form the Granite City Cloggers where she instructed and performed at various functions. Left to cherish her memoires are her husband of 51 years, Donnie James York; one daughter, Melissa York Tackett; one son and daughter-in-law, David York and wife Jody; three grandchildren, Dustin York, Katelyn York, Macy Tackett; one sister, Mary Jane Kirkman Tilley and Steve; three brothers, Eugene Kirkman and Wanda, Roger Kirkman, Ricky Kirkman and Tammy; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. York was preceded in death by an infant sister and brother. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chris Oakley officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. Mrs. York’s body will Lie-in-State on Sunday, December 19, 2021, from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family will receive friends on December 20, 2021, at Moody Funeral Home from 12:30 until 1:00 PM.
