Mrs. Beulah "Dottie" Moser Loftis, 80, of 1693 Woodbury Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Loftis was born May 23, 1926, in Surry County, to the late Ollie H. and Elizabeth Midkiff Moser. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Mount Airy. She was a member of the Rebekah Sunday School Class and served as a choir member, a member of the Flower Committee, and the Hospitality and Kitchen Committee. Mrs. Loftis was a volunteer reading instructor for the Mount Airy City Schools for more than 20 years. As the wife of Mayor Loftis, Mrs. Loftis has been a gracious first lady for the city of Mount Airy since his election in 2001. Most importantly, Dottie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a friend to all. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jack A. Loftis of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Woody Jordan of Mount Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Emily Loftis and Richard and Marti Loftis, all of Mount Airy, and Daniel and Jane Loftis of Winston-Salem; and five grandchildren, Rob Loftis of Conshohocken, PA, Brook Jordan of High Point, and Matthew Jordan, Kathryn Loftis, and Caroline Loftis, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Loftis was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Louise "Lucy" Moser; and three brothers, Joe Timmons, Elmer Timmons, and Johnny Timmons. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2007, at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Roger B. Gilbert. Burial will be private at Midkiff Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at First Baptist Church. Mrs. Loftis and her family greatly benefited from the services of her personal friend and physician, Dr. Roger Kerley. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the Midkiff Cemetery Fund, 1693 Woodbury Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030, Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
