Mr. Billie Wyatt McCraw, Jr, age 82 of Cana, VA passed away at his home January 14, 2009. Mr. McCraw was born in Carroll County VA on July 4, 1926 to the late Billie Wyatt and Katie Thomas McCraw. Mr. McCraw served his country during the Korean Conflict and later served with the Virginia State Police. He was owner and operator of Cana Farm Supply formerly State Line Milling Company. He was a founding member of the Cana Rescue Squad serving as Captain for over 30 years. He was instrumental in assisting Carroll County as well as other counties in the formation of their rescue squad service. Mr. McCraw with his strong belief in serving his community taught his family to reach out and help others in need and proudly watched as his entire family become EMT's and took an active role in serving their community. He served two terms as a member of the Carroll County School Board. He served as a member of the Great Lakes to Florida Highway Association working diligently to obtain funding to build Interstate 77 through Carroll County helping to rid eighteen wheelers from the school bus route on highway 52. He was a veteran member of Renfro Masonic Lodge #691 and recently had received his sixty year Diamond Jubilee Award. Mr. McCraw is survived by his wife, Betsy Mills Love McCraw of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Jimmy Woodall of Claudville, VA, Judy and Dr. Bill Moran of Pinnacle, NC; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Marie McCraw of Danville, VA; seven grandchildren, Jason and Justin Woodall, Leigh Ann Worrell, Olivia McCraw, Will McCraw, Preston McCraw and Christian Harris; a sister, Geneva Slate of King, NC; four step children; six step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. McCraw was preceded in death by his children's mother and wife of 43 years, Bernell Hawks McCraw; a son Larry Wyatt McCraw a sister, Ruth Hawks and two brothers, Green and Reed McCraw. There will be a private service conducted. The family will receive friends at his home in Cana. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Oxford Orphanage, 600 College St, Oxford, NC 27565 or to the Virginia State Police Association Emergency Relief Fund "In Memory of Bill McCraw" at 6944 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, VA 23225.
