Bill "Pa" Cassell

Mr. Billy Gray “Pa” Cassell, age 82 of White Plains, gained his angel wings on Monday afternoon, October 10, 2022, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, NC.  He was born in Surry County, on September 13, 1940, to the late Samuel Austin Cassell and Tishie Mae Marion Cassell.  Pa was retired from North Carolina Foam Industries (NCFI) after 39 years of service and attended Mount Carmel Baptist Church.  He was a saved child of God!!  He was an avid Duke basketball fan and loved his NASCAR races.  Pa was retired from White Plains Volunteer Fire Department as Assistant Fire Chief, he was also past vice president of the Board of Directors and a current member of the board.  Pa served the citizens of White Plains for over 62 years in the fire department.  Pa loved his family especially his precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren, loved cookouts, and basically anytime spent with his family.  Those left to cherish his memory are a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Jack Wyrick; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gray and Beverly “BJ” Cassell, and Lewis and Kayla Cassell; six grandchildren, Krista and Josh Marion, Kayla and Shannon Short, Kevin and Aleicia Wyrick, Josh and Sarah Cassell, Salem Cassell, and Gracie Jean Cassell; seven great-grandchildren, Lynzie Thomas, Will Thomas, Liam Wyrick, Silas Wyrick, Ellie Kate Short, Tucker Short, and Tanner Short; brother-in-law, John Clifton; sister-in-law, Rachel Allred; and brother-in-law, Mike and Stella Jones, granddog Yoshi Hayes Cassell; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Pa was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Martha Jean Cassell; sisters, infant Imogene Cassell, Dorothy “Dot” Clifton, and Betty Lou Nester; brother, David Cassell; and his best friend, Rex Mauldin.  Graveside services will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery at 3:00PM with the Rev. Dr. Joel Stephens, Rev. Bob Blake, and Rev. Scott Schuyler officiating.  The family will be receiving friends on Saturday night, October 15, 2022, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 6:00PM – 8:00PM and at other times at Pa and Granny’s house.  The family would like to thank the ED staff at Northern Regional Hospital, the transport staff especially Tim Hawks, and the staff of the CVICU at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health for all of the love and compassion they gave Pa and the family during his recent illness.
