Billy Joe "Buck" Childress

Billy Joe “Buck” Childress, age 64, of Thurmond, NC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 13, 2021.  He was born on June 3, 1956, in Surry County to the late Arestus and Pauline Roberts Childress.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Christine Fennimore Childress.  Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Christine Parker-Childress; sons, David James (Ashley) Childress and Brian Andrew Childress; step-daughter, Denice Cheek; step-son, Ricky (April) Cheek; step-grandchildren, Josh Donardt, Callie Taylor, Sydney Cheek, Ryley Cheek; great-granddaughter, Cora; sister, Kay Frances Smith; brothers, Arthur Ray (Betty) Childress, Johnny Wayne Childress and Charles E. (Rebecca) Childress; sister-in-law, Danelle (Steve) DeLoach; brother-in-law, David Fennimore and several beloved nieces and nephews.  Buck was a beef cattle farmer and retired employee of the NCDOT Maintenance in Dobson, NC.  He was known for his jokester spirit, never met a stranger and was dearly loved by many.  His hobbies were his cattle farm, RV camping, beach trips with family and friends and pheasant hunting trip to Nebraska and South Dakota.  A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2021, at Mountain Park Cemetery at 3:00 pm, with Rev. Rex Walker officiating. There will be no formal services held at the funeral home.  Special thanks to Dr. Karin F. Giordano, the caring nurses and staff of Novant Health Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center, Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and his nurse, Debbie Ford.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Buck’s memory to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030.  Moody-Davis Funeral Services in Dobson is serving the Childress family.
